CPEC: A Modern Revival of Ancient Trade, Says Professor Li Xiguang

Peshawar (China Window News): The professor Li Xiguang has said that it was a great honor for him to participate in the international seminar organized by China Window. He shared that he had spent most of the past ten years in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and believed that CPEC is not a new project—trade had started along this route over two thousand years ago. However, now CPEC has taken a new form.

He expressed these views during the concluding session on the second day of the international seminar organized by China Window in Peshawar. Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Advisor for Information and Public Relations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was also present on the occasion.The Li Xiguang  who is professor at the school of journalism and communication of Tsinghua University said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa holds a unique position due to the Gandhara civilization. He believes that CPEC is not only a project for Pakistan’s economic prosperity but will also greatly benefit the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He is confident that trade through Malakand, Chitral, and Peshawar will extend to Afghanistan and Central Asian republics.

He recalled that former Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai visited Peshawar in 1964, where he addressed students at the University of Peshawar and invited Chinese students to study there. The professor Li said that the CPEC project is progressing steadily due to the keen interest of the leadership of both Pakistan and China. Both countries will gain tremendous benefits from it.
He emphasized that if this project connects Pakistan’s underdeveloped cities, its benefits can reach a larger population.

He paid high tribute to the people of Pakistan, saying he is proud of their commendable role in strengthening Pakistan-China friendship. He also mentioned cooperation between the two countries in promoting tourism and education and expressed hope that these efforts will have positive outcomes in the future.
