Pakistan, China, Afghanistan Pledge Enhanced Cooperation at Sixth Trilateral Dialogue in Kabul

KABUL, Aug 20 (Monitoring Desk): The Sixth Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue was held in Kabul on Wednesday, bringing together Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, the Foreign Minister of China, and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister. The meeting focused on strengthening political, economic, and security cooperation among the three neighbors.

The ministers reiterated their resolve to intensify joint efforts against terrorism and reaffirmed commitments to expand cooperation in trade, transit, regional development, health, education, culture, and drug control. They also emphasized the importance of extending the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan.

On the sidelines of the trilateral dialogue, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister held a bilateral meeting with Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and welcomed the recent elevation of diplomatic representation from Chargé d’Affaires to Ambassadorial level, following agreements reached during the May 2025 Beijing meeting.

Reviewing recent high-level contacts — including the Deputy Prime Minister’s visits to Kabul on April 19 and July 17 this year, and the trilateral meeting in Beijing — the ministers noted with appreciation that most decisions from these engagements had been implemented or were nearing completion, particularly in trade and transit.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister, while acknowledging progress in political and commercial relations, underscored the need for tangible steps in the security domain. He voiced concern over the recent surge in terrorist attacks inside Pakistan by groups operating from Afghan soil, urging Kabul to take concrete and verifiable action against entities such as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA)/Majeed Brigade.

In response, Acting Foreign Minister Muttaqi reiterated Afghanistan’s commitment to ensuring that its territory would not be used by any terrorist group against Pakistan or other nations.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister thanked the Afghan leadership for their warm hospitality and congratulated them on the successful hosting of the Sixth Trilateral Dialogue.
