Government Taking Steps to Boost Cultural Institutions: Haleema Iqbal

Peshawar: A prestigious literary event was organized under the auspices of China Window, where the travelogue “From Istanbul to Gallipoli” by renowned writer and broadcaster Ms. Aftab Iqbal Bano was officially launched. The chief guest on the occasion was Director Culture Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ms. Halima Iqbal. The event was attended by distinguished personalities from various walks of life, including writers, intellectuals, and literary figures. Prominent poet, intellectual, and columnist Mushtaq Shabab, writer Kulsoom Zaib, columnist Naz Parveen, and writer and poet Malik Arshad Hussain shared their views on the book. Presidential Award-winning renowned compere Jamshed Ali Khan hosted the event.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Halima Iqbal appreciated the efforts of China Window, stating that the institution is playing a vital role in promoting Pak-China friendship and cultural ties. She emphasized that mutual cooperation between the Department of Culture and Chinese cultural institutions can further highlight the cultures of both countries.

She paid tribute to Aftab Iqbal Bano, noting that although she is based in Canada, her heart still beats for her hometown Peshawar. She termed the launch of her book in her native city a commendable initiative.

Halima Iqbal described “From Istanbul to Gallipoli” as a comprehensive and engaging travelogue, beautifully portraying Turkey’s historical sites, scenic islands, Ottoman heritage, and the significant World War I battleground of Gallipoli. She remarked that the book not only provides information but also gives readers the feeling of traveling alongside the author. She expressed hope that the book would earn a prominent place in literature.

Highlighting the initiatives of the Culture Department, she mentioned that efforts are underway to revive Nishtar Hall and to actively promote literary and cultural activities.

Speaking at the event, author and former distinguished broadcaster Aftab Iqbal Bano said her passion for literature is natural, which led her to write several books, including “Land of Spain,” “Ashk,” “Mera Shehar Mera Dilbar,” “Radio Jahan Awaz,” “Qissa Khwani Massacre,” “Malaysia,” and “Ahwal-e-Russia.” She has also authored three books in Hindko and numerous research articles. She urged the younger generation to develop a habit of reading, strive for the promotion of knowledge and literature, and utilize all available resources for the advancement of art and culture.

Earlier, speakers termed “From Istanbul to Gallipoli” an outstanding literary work and expressed hope that the author would continue contributing to literature in the future. The event concluded with the formal unveiling of the travelogue by the Director Culture Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
